June US chicken exports were 13% bigger than the prior year and the largest for any month since October 2008. The larger exports in June occurred despite a rising US dollar and virtually no trade with major importer Russia. The trade dispute with Russia has been resolved again which could bring a boost to chicken leg quarter exports and prices in the coming weeks. Still, we’re skeptical that solid chicken trade with Russia will be longstanding. The chicken breast markets continue to move upward. Chicken breast prices usually peak around the last week of August and then move sharply lower. Last year the boneless skinless chicken breast market declined 12% during September. The chicken wing markets are firm.
